You have detected lice. The War is on!

The Nit-pickers' Guide / You have detected lice. The War is on!

It's nothing to get upset about

Lice are a very common problem. Simply take some precautions to prevent the infestation from spreading.

Check all members of the family. A head lice treatment is only successful if every infected member of the family is treated on the same day.

Need help to check?

Inform the school your child attends. Notify everyone that has been in close contact with the infested person over the past two weeks.

Head lice don't disappear on their own, they have to be treated.

Need help to treat?

Talk about it with your kids

So that they don't feel ashamed and that they understand what's going on. Do so in a reassuring voice. If you remain calm, your child will remain calm too.

First and foremost, tell them that you cannot get lice from having dirty hair. Head lice love every type of human hair, even squeaky-clean hair.

Children are curious: that's why you should explain what a louse is, (show a few photos), how to detect them and how to prevent them. Some children can become frightened if you go into too much detail. Judge how much you can tell them.

Reassure them and say that you will treat the lice. Compare it with hair that's a bit sick. With the right medicine it will quickly be healthy again.
